Getting Started
A brief guide to starting therapy
The Santa Barbara Therapy Collective has adopted a depth psychological approach to healing. This refers to the exploration of the subtle, unconscious, and transpersonal aspects of human experience.
A Brief Guide to Individual Therapy at the Santa Barbara Therapy Collective
1
Identify Your Goals & Intentions
These questions may help determine your goals & intentions:
What would an ideal outcome of therapy look like for you?
What are questions you are seeking answers to? What are old ways of being you are looking to shed? Or ways of being you would like to invite in?
2
Matching You with the Right Therapist
Taking your goals and intentions into account, we’ll match you with the therapist that will best support you. This may be based on therapeutic modality offered to suit your needs or simply a demographic match based on such thing as gender or age.
3
Collaboratively Creating a Treatment Plan
You will work with your therapist in customizing a plan to help you meet your goals. We will take into consideration what has or has not helped you in the past.
Aside from traditional talk therapy, we may make suggestions, such as utilizing EMDR therapy, or inviting practices like breathwork or mindfulness.
4
Doing the Work
Your clinician will support you throughout your healing process at a pace that is comfortable for you. When progress is made, let’s take note of what’s working. If stuckness is present, let’s become curious, explore its cause, and find a resolution. You are invited to openly share at anytime what is or isn’t working.
